Bronze Star
This program is perfect to prepare candidates for Bronze Medallion. Candidates learn rescue
skills, first aid and resuscitation skills, self rescue techniques and complete a fitness
challenge. Swimming experience recommended 10-12 hr
Bronze Medallion
Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principals embodied into the four components of
water rescue education: judgment knowledge, skills and fitness. Rescuers learn tows,
carries, defense methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased
risk involving conscious/unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke
efficiency and endurance in a timed 500m swim. Course is examiner evaluated.
13 years or 12 years with Bronze Star, proof shown on first day. 18-20 hr
Bronze Cross
Further develops the skills learned in Bronze Medallion and further challenges the candidate
with advanced training including safety supervision. Bronze Cross teaches the difference
between lifesaving and Lifeguarding, the principals of emergency procedures and teamwork.
Lifesavers learn how to rescue a spinal injured victim and a pulseless victim. Building on
skills learned in the areas of resuscitation and first aid learned in emergency first aid is also
done.

NLS
The National Lifeguard Service (NLS) course consists of a core course dealing with
lifeguarding principles and techniques, together with the environment—specific items leading
to certification in one of the NLS options– Pool, Waterfront, Surf or Waterpark.
National Lifeguard training builds on the fundamental skills, knowledge and values taught in
the Lifesaving awards of the Society to develop the practical skills and knowledge required by
lifeguards
Bronze Cross, Minimum 16 years of age & Current Standard First Aid 40 hr
Basic First Aid & CPR A
Basic First Aid covers the basics including how to contact emergency medical services,
rescue breathing, how to treat choking and minor injuries. CPR A teaches how to do adult
CPR and choking. none 3-4 hr
Emergency First Aid & CPR B
Emergency First Aid is for people who want a general knowledge of first aid priciples and the
emergency treatment of injuries. Skills include: Victim assessment, rescue breathing, CPR,
choking, and what to do for external bleeding, heart attack and stroke.
None 6.5-8 hr
Standard First Aid with CPR C
In-depth First Aid course covering all aspects of first aid treatments in a dry land program.
This course also has incorporated a CPR C level resuscitation award, which is the highest
form of CPR designation awarded. Award needs to be recerted every 2 years.
